A direct-to-owner property marketplace for Nigeria. Find a home to buy or rent and talk to the owner, with no agent fees.
What yard.ng is
Yard connects people looking for a home with the owners and agents who list them. Search by map or filters across Nigerian cities, message a lister directly, save a search and get alerts when something new appears. Yard is designed, built and run by Sabisoft.
Customers find Yard through the App Store and Google Play, and through Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook.
Who it is for
- Seekers. Tenants and buyers who want to deal with the owner directly.
- Listers. Owners and agents who want their properties in front of serious people, with a subscription instead of a cut.
What we built
Everything below is in production and run by Sabisoft.
- iOS and Android apps built with React Native and Expo, available in seven languages including Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, with offline drafts so a listing survives a dropped connection.
- A Django REST API on PostgreSQL, with real-time messaging between seekers and listers over WebSockets.
- Subscriptions billed through Paystack on Android and Apple in-app purchase on iOS, reconciled on the server from receipts and webhooks.
- Map search, saved searches with alerts, favourites, and verified listing documentation.
- An operations console for the Yard team.
- An image pipeline on Google Cloud that resizes every photo for the phone requesting it.
- Deployment on Google Kubernetes Engine with a staging environment and tagged production releases.

Mid-range Android, metered data and patchy coverage decided our image sizes, our caching and our offline drafts before any screen was designed.
